Celebrated bassist and composer Jasper Høiby presents We Must Fight - an album that reimagines his music, from some of the most celebrated Phronesis albums including Alive, Walking Dark, Parallax, and We Are All, with his collaborative and exploratory ensemble, Fellow Creatures, featuring new arrangements by the lauded and pioneering saxophonist, composer and arranger, Alex Hitchcock.

Featuring a richly textured group including oud player Saied Silbak, flautist Ketija Ringa Karahona, pianist Xavi Torres, and drummer Luca Caruso, bringing voices from Denmark, UK, Palestine, Latvia and Spain. We Must Fight speaks plainly about the times we live in: a moment when basic rights and democratic ideals are under threat. We Must Fight is an album that recognises the importance of the collective voice, to use art forms as a vehicle to call to action, to defend what matters and to use the freedoms afforded to us to support those without.

Hello Everyone,

Let’s get to it! I have finally decided to take my music off Spotify. I have had this thought for a long time but now the reasons for leaving are just too many. For those who are blissfully unaware here’s a few reasons to Boykott Spotify:

Spotify was founded on a false claim that they we an alternative to illegal download platforms like Napster etc. Founder Daniel Eek did countless interviews claiming that they were saving the future of music and that customers would now have a chance to support their favorite artists much more directly and that their money would benefit their favorite artists directly. This is a complete lie and has been debunked countless of times since.

Spotify has recently become so confident in their exploitation of the creators that they have recently introduced a rule which allows them to keep revenue for any track that does less than 1000 streams pr year. That accounts for 86% of all music on their platform. Yes, lets just take moment and let that sink in…. They are again lying through their teeth when they claim that tracks like these are mainly made by amateurs. Most Jazz does not do millions of plays on Spotify unless it gets plugged by the streaming giant on their own playlists which nowadays are more keen to prioritise music made by bots. Even if music doesn’t stream in the millions how can you deny compensating people for the actual thing you are monetising on your platform? WILD!

Spotify has also made special deals with composers hiring some on monthly salaries and making them sign over their royalties (rights) in order to produce as much mundane music as possible for a low pay. That music is now prioritised and pushed on their playlists in order for them to grab the money that would have otherwise gone to real artists and composers.

Spotify’s founder and biggest shareholder Daniel Eek has recently announced that he is investing 600 million dollars in an A.I Weapons company. This is his second investment in this type of company. In 2021 he invested 100 million euros in weapons company Helsing. As everyone else who invests in Weapons they dress it up in lovely buzzwords like ‘defense’ and ‘protecting’.

Taking my music off Spotify will mean that you will no longer be able to listen to it on that particular platform in the future. I will rather miss out on that platform then support crazy warmongering tech billionaires in their rush to destroy everything we hold dear for profit. The best way you can support me going forward is to buy my music directly from the Edition website or Bandcamp and of course, come to my gigs. You can still stream my stuff on Apple, Deezer, Tidal etc. but it goes without saying that buying the music in it’s physical form is by far the best and most direct way to support any independent artist these days. Offering the music in the form of notation is partly motivated by the fact that it’s getting more and more difficult to make any money on music. Next I’ll be selling off my old socks although I doubt anyone’s intersted in those lol. (If you are let me know and I’ll make you a great deal)
